Classroom One caters for students from Preschool to Year 3. Children come from primary and special schools and have a broad range of needs and abilities with the population varying from day to day. Some children are present for extended periods of time, some return intermittently and others are here for only a short duration.

 

The children present with a diversity of surgical, medical and psychiatric conditions including oncology, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, asthma, head injuries and orthopaedics. In addition to inpatient students from the hospitals, the classroom has day students, some of whom are admitted through the Child Youth and Mental Health Day Program as well as children from country regional areas and interstate whose parents or siblings are hospitalised.

 

The classroom is a colourful, welcoming, learning environment with an interesting and challenging array of equipment and resources including three computers. All computers have internet and email access. The classroom opens onto an outside play area.
