CLASSROOM THREE

Index  | Classrooms

Classroom Three caters for students in Years 8 - 12. Students come from secondary and special schools and have a broad range of needs and abilities with the population varying from day to day. Some students are present for extended periods of time, some return intermittently and others are here for only a short duration.

In addition to inpatient students from the hospitals, the classroom has day students, some of whom are admitted through the Child Youth and Mental Health Day Program as well as children from country regional areas and interstate whose parents or siblings are hospitalised. Meeting the needs of each student requires a flexible teaching model with class, group and individual programs catering to needs and circumstances of each student.

.

Long periods of hospitalisation cause major disruptions to a student's education program. The education service provided is designed to offer hospitalised adolescents, and siblings of hospitalised family members from country areas, opportunities to continue with school work, to maintain study routines, to learn new skills and to socialise with peers.
