The MATER
HOSPITAL
SPECIAL
SCHOOL
is able to accesses the services of a guidance
officer on a needs basis. This service is available for all children enrolled in the
hospital school. Referrals to the guidance services for individual children and their
families are made through the Principal and written parental permission is required for
each referral in accordance with departmental practices.
Referrals from the Child
and Youth Mental Health Services within the Mater Hospital are also made through the
Principal. This procedure allows for prioritisation of cases.
Duties carried out by the guidance officer include:

psycho-educational assessments and recommendations |

educational programs and educational placement recommendations |
 |
individuals and group counselling |
 |
career and course counselling |
