The ROBIN Team (Rehabilitation Of Children with Acquired Brain Injuries and Neuromuscular Disorders) based at the Mater Children's Hospital provides an multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of children with brain injury acquired through trauma or illness, neuromuscular disorders or spinal injuries. The team consists of a Paediatric Neurologist, Team Leader, Clinical Nurse, Social Worker, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Neuropsychologist and a School Liaison Teacher.

Many children with acquired brain injury and neuromuscular disorder require hospitalisation for several months as well as follow up after discharge from hospital. The process of transition from hospital to school is carefully managed. At times a new educational setting is required. The liaison teacher on the ROBIN Team assists the integration into school program.

The liaison role includes:

liaison between the ROBIN team, clinics, families, home schools and hospital school

attending inpatient, outpatient  and team planning meetings

assisting in the planning and conducting of children's workshops

family education; workshops, lectures, conferences, school visits

planning sessions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
